Woman fights off alleged attacker

A man is behind bars, accused of attacking a woman in his apartment complex.
It happened at an apartment building on Cross Keys Road, near Versailles Road.
Lexington Police say the suspect grabbed the woman as she left her apartment, forced her into a basement laundry room and then tried to rape her.
Police say the woman was able to fight the man off. People in the area called police who eventually tracked the suspect down to an apartment in the building.
The arrested 41-year old Higini Sernas-Cruz for criminal attempt to commit rape.

Woman Tells How She Fought Off Attempted Sexual Assault

A woman who said a man tried to rape her in the laundry room of a Lexington apartment complex said she was not about to become a victim.

The 25-year-old said she was on her way to pick up her boyfriend when Higinio Serna-Cruz attacked her and tried to rape her. She told LEX 18 she punched and kicked him, and when he fell down, she ran to her car, put the seat down and hid. Three men who heard the woman's screams for help tracked down Serna-Cruz, found him hiding in a closet in his apartment and held him until police arrived.

The woman said this was not the first time she encountered Serna-Cruz. She claims he offered her drugs and money in exchange for sex Tuesday night.
